Overview

Hermosa Beach is the very essence of the Southern California lifestyle, with temperatures ranging from highs of 77 degrees in the summer to 67 degrees in winter.

A sunny small beach city of 1.43 square miles, Hermosa Beach sits at the center of Los Angeles County’s South Bay coastline, just 5 miles south of Los Angeles. A bedroom community with a flourishing downtown and recently redeveloped pier plaza, the City of Hermosa Beach serves a stable population of 19,858, according to the State's latest population estimate. However as a lively beach city, Hermosa experiences a high visitor population. During the 2010-11 fiscal year, beach attendance ranged from a low of 94,300 in December 2010 to a high of 939,000 in July 2010, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Lifeguard Division. Total beach attendance in FY 2010-11 is up 18.5% from FY 2009-10 to 3,763,700.

Average median home prices in Hermosa Beach for fiscal year 2010-11 were $1,040,417, as home values adjacent to the beach continue to hold up much better than other parts of the county and state. There are architecturally diverse residences on the Strand, bungalows scattered throughout the town, and multilevel homes in the hills with ocean views. The City has police and fire departments, a robust park system and green belt, exceptional schools and facilities, and is also well known for its entertainment offerings such as festivals and special events throughout the year.

The three highest occupations are management, sales, and administrative support, however residents enjoy access to a much more diverse employment base with the close proximity of all of the other cities in Los Angeles County, as well as many of the largest and best known names in corporate America in such fields as aerospace, high tech, industrial, service and finance.

Featured as one of the Top 10 Beaches on the Travel Channel, Hermosa Beach is the little gem by the sea with something for everyone where the surf, sand and palms welcome visitors and residents year-round. This intimate sun-drenched beachside village combines a spectacular coastline, wide sandy beach, a century-old rich history, specialty shops and restaurants and lively festivals - long a favorite with Californians.
